The overuse of antibiotics has become a growing concern, and “antibiotic-free farming” is now a key trend in the livestock and poultry industry. On the 16th, the Taoyuan City Government's Social Enterprise Center announced that Ming Chun Livestock Technology, a company it supports, has been recognized for promoting antibiotic-free farming practices. The company recently received the 2025 Green Vision Award – Green Label Recognition, and has partnered with Taiwan’s major meat import-export company Shinber International to launch a new brand, Black Feather Phoenix Chicken, advancing toward goals of food safety and sustainable production.
Shane Yang shared that between 2015 and 2017, he conducted extensive research based on scientifically validated studies to test and formulate Chinese herbal blends for poultry. He carefully adjusted dosages, raised chickens using the formulas, and tracked their feeding behaviors. Eventually, he developed an effective formula: the survival rate of native chickens averaged 88%, and broiler chickens reached about 98%—comparable to industry standards that use antibiotics. Currently, in addition to Bei-Yi Farm in northern Taiwan, two broiler farms in Miaoli and Taichung also use the formula, with over 60,000 chickens consuming the herbal feed.
“Our solution not only reduces antibiotic use and environmental pollution, but also increases farmers' income by over 15%.” With this foundation, Green Acres Co., Ltd. has steadily attracted like-minded partners. Many of the collaborating chicken farms are operated by young farmers, bringing fresh ideas into the livestock industry. Together, they constantly explore ways to break through traditional systems and create new value.
When asked how he evaluates potential farm partners, Shane Yang answered thoughtfully, “The most important thing is their mindset and attitude toward raising chickens.”
For Shane Yang, poultry farming is not just about raising chickens — it's about raising them well.
Unlike most "NAE (Never Antibiotics Ever)" farms that raise fast-growing broiler chickens, Shane Yang took on the tougher challenge of raising black-feather native chickens for up to 90 days. He proudly shares, “We’ve even raised NAE chickens for 180 days, and our black-feather native chickens have an average survival rate of 88%. NAE isn't about whether it can be done—it's about whether you're willing to do it.”
JunBin Su highlighted GREEN ACRES CO., LTD., a startup nurtured in recent years by Taoyuan City’s Department of Agriculture and Department of Youth Affairs, as a successful case. The company developed a herbal-based formula to replace antibiotics in feed—proving its practical viability. Not only has it achieved 100% No Antibiotics Ever (NAE), but it also overcomes limitations in equipment or chicken breeds by customizing NAE models for each farm.
The achievements of GREEN ACRES CO., LTD. mark the first phase of Taoyuan’s NAE initiative. Going forward, the Departments of Agriculture, Youth Affairs, Environmental Protection, and Public Health will continue to collaborate to support more environmentally friendly businesses that create positive, sustainable impact for the future.

The global livestock industry is facing new challenges and trends, one of which is the impact of antibiotics on human health and the environment. How can the industry systematically promote "NAE, Never Antibiotic Ever" farming? What are the key differences between antibiotic-free farming and traditional farming practices? Shane, with his extensive knowledge in animal science and experience in the livestock industry, hopes to use his expertise to make a change in the world. The primary goal of founding GREEN ACRES CO., LTD. is to demonstrate to both the industry and consumers that NAE is not impossible—it is simply a matter of whether we choose to do it!
